- FAQ'S - ANSWERED WITH HONESTY!
- Will the spray tan turn me orange or streaky?
- No. We use St Tropez and Bondi sands solutions which have won many awards for their intelligent tan technology. We have 6 different tans to choose from. We pick shades suitable for your skin as well as your desired result.
- Streaky tans happen if you don't exfoliate, If you have peeling skin, or if the tan is compromised after application or during the development stage.
- The tan can look a little muddy and dark when we initially spray you. It will build up in the creases of your skin, feel sticky and at times look a little blotchy where it moves around on the surface of your skin. Don't worry, This is no indication of the colour you will be. Trust the process! The guide colour you see when we spray you gets washed away leaving a beautifully even tan underneath the following day.
- How long will my tan last?
As long as you follow the aftercare tips found on the 'Do's and Don'ts' page, your tan can last for up to 10 days, then will fade evenly, like a normal tan. A spray tan is more likely to fade on your face and hands though due to them being washed more often than other parts of your body. avoid using wipes and retinol products will wearing your tan to prolong the colour. - What preparation is needed?
- You will need to EXFOLIATE before your tan and remove any deodorant or make-up. 24 hours before, shave or wax and exfoliate (when exfoliating, concentrate on drier areas such as elbows, knees and ankles). Make sure any moisturisers you use are oil free.
- Before we arrive please remove any makeup, deodorant or moisturisers, or anything that could act as a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution. This could lead to discoloration or an uneven tan.
- You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in; most clients go topless but wear a dark thong or similar, and some wear a dark bikini. We provide complimentary disposable thongs and a hairnet at each appointment,
- Take a look at our DO's & DON'Ts page for more info regarding preparation.
- How long does a spray tan take?
We can be in and out or your home in 45 minutes, But we allow 1 hour per appointment. - It takes just 5-10 minutes to set up our mess-free booth, and then 10-15 minutes to complete the Spray Tan misting process. You could have it done in your lunch hour at work, it’s that quick & easy.
- What should I do and wear after my spray tan?
After application we ask that you wear loose, dark clothing. Try to wear open shoes (flip flops are ideal) and leave tight underwear off whilst your tan develops. - Stay clear of light fabrics. Put a towel down if you want to sit on your sofa or any fabricated furniture.
- Don't lean up against your walls!
No exercise or swimming whilst your tan develops, or anything that could cause excessive perspiration. - Once the development time is up - you can shower away the sticky guide colour, pat yourself dry, apply moisturiser...and then you are free to do all of the above!
- For more info read our DO's & DON'Ts page.
- Does it smell funny?
Not particularly! St Tropez, have spent a lot of time with one of the worlds leading fragrance houses, Givaudan to create breakthrough mood enhancing technology for a tanning product without the distinctive smell of DHA. - Bondi Sands smells like Malibu! Pina colada anyone?
- When we spray the small can be quite strong - we ask you open windows or doors to keep the room ventilated.
- The well known 'fake tan small' what some describe as biscuits, comes when DHA reacts with your amino acids and starts to develop the colour on your skin. The darker the tan, the stronger then smell, however, this is usually only noticeable in the first 24 hrs. A second shower and a lathering of your favourite moisturiser/fragrance sorts this out.
- Where in my house is best to set up the tanning booth?
- We think kitchens are the best because there is often good ventilation, plug sockets and minimal fabric. We don't leave a mess, but fabric tends to absorb smells and we want to keep your home as we find it. If the kitchen isn't ideal, any room with enough space and ventilation works, so Bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and offices. In the summer we enjoy spraying in gardens and garages too. As long as there's a plug socket, we can pop up our tent and spray!
- Will it transfer onto my clothes/wedding dress?
- The tanning solution has a guide colour in it, which contains a bronzer/pigment. Of course if your clothing is white and tight and you get a little warm/sweaty, there's a chance there could be some transfer on the inside where it is rubbing against the skin.
- If you are getting married we recommend you have the tan 2 days before your wedding, Have 2 showers to remove as much of the guide colour as possible, and then don't wear moisturiser on the areas where the clothing will be tight - this will minimise transfer.
- When is the best time to have a spray tan before a special occasion?
- To look your very best for a special occasion we would recommend having your tan 1 or 2 days before the event to give you time to shower off the guide colour.
- How can I make my tan last longer?
- Exfoliate really well before the tan
- Stay hydrated
- Take shorter, cooler showers - Don't bath or swim for long periods of time. pat dry after washing, don't rub.
- Don't scrub your skin, use your hands with shower gel rather than a mitte/sponge
- Moisturise with oil free products
- Is there an age limit on spray tanning?
- No, however, we will need consent from a guardian for under 18's. No children under 16 can be totally nude during the tanning.
- There is no upper age limit, but for mature skin we recommend the glycerine based tans like St Tropez which are more hydrating.
- Are St Tropez and Bondi Sands Vegan friendly?
- Yes, All products we use are vegan, cruelty-free, PETA certified and sustainably packaged. St Tropez contains vegetan which is a 100% natural form of DHA which is derived solely from vegetable sources.
- Who should not have a spray tan?
We don't spray pregnant ladies, those with breathing difficulties, and those with any allergies to the tanning ingredients, - If your skin is broken, flaky, particularly dry or sore, we advise against having a spray tan. the solution is absorbed more so by the dry skin making it appear darker. if you have a lot of dry flaky skin, the result will be very uneven. This is why exfoliating is so important.
- Will the spray tan make a mess in my home?
NO. We'll be in and out. Our Mobile Spray Tan Artist will bring along a pop-up booth, specifically designed to protect your home from any mess. All we leave is a pleasant smell in the air and glowing skin! - Aren't spray tans just for women?
- Absolutely not! We celebrate every person no matter who you are, including the LGBTQIA+ community. We all want to look and feel great. People worry about hair on the body and how it will effect the tan, it wont. The fine mist works its way through and absorbs quickly into the skin.

- If you need to remove the tan within 5 days of your appointment you will need a little time and patience...try the following:
- Oil, lots of oil!, cover yourself in oil and sit for a couple of hours - then soak in a bath before gently exfoliating
- Swim in chlorine for a long time, or soak in a warm soapy bath for a long time (prune fingers!) then exfoliate.
- Purchase a brand specific tan remover and follow the manufacturers guidelines.
